There are possible health related issues when using a Rutland / Fiberglass gasket around food as the fibers from the fiberglass can get on the food.
There has been considerable debate by the BGE people about using the Rutland Stove Gasket, which is made of fiberglass. The Rutland Company even stated its fiberglass product was not recommended around food preparation, because of the fiberglass strands that may break off.
BGE now has a new gasket make out of NOMEX, this is the same material used in firefighters suits. The BGE people that have used this new gasket give it very good reviews.
This new gasket is not readily available because there is a ton of the old style felt gaskets in the distribution change and my understanding is that all the Egg Dealers are trying to clear out this old inventory before they sell the new gaskets.
Your best bet would be to give the BGE manufacturer a call. Again my understanding is that they will sell or give (under warranty) you this new gasket.
