We cook on Grill Domes and we're usually in the top ten.
I also know several teams who do well with WSMs, and a few others who do the same with Primos. I think brands/types of cookers are popular in different parts of the country. Here in Georgia we have the top three manufacturers within 50 miles of each other, so you see a lot of ceramics. The midwest seems to like cabinet smokers, Texas loves stick burners, etc, so it's not surprising that an individual's perceptions would be skewed if he had only visited contests in one part of the country.
