Kamado has had many complaints about customer service and receiving parts and products. The Komodo Kamado is a different story but extremely expensive compared to others. All brands have loyal followers and get great results. I am also struggling with a choice and here are my observations. Grill Dome does appear to have better build qualtiy with machined surfaces for the gaskets and heavier duty hardware and heavier duty in general but that being said it seems like whenever it cracks or there is a problem there is an excuse. You got it too hot, you used a different charcoal grate, the pizza stone was too big, their claimed uncrackable fireboxes were cracking and they say it is a vendor problem but then their website says they keep the manufacturing process to them to maintain quality. The company will tell you their formula is more advanced and better than the competition but then you should not use a chimney starter because it can cause thermal shock. You have to use a small pizza stone or else it could crack the ceramics. If you use a BGE platesetter and cook at higher temps it could crack the ceramics. The list goes on and on. They also claim an advantage to using paint instead of the same exterior glaze as BGE or Primo but the paint on colors other than black have been bubbling for at least several months. The tiny cracks in the glaze on BGE and Primo hurt nothing. Some mention the 20 year warranty on Primo as opposed to the BGE or GrillDome. Yes there is a difference but the Oval does provide some advantages over the others. A problem with Primo is taking care of and you don!t see them telling the customer they did something wrong, they make it right. I have seen all the Primo shapes and sizes, all the BGE sizes and only the Tall and XXTall Large Grill Domes. I have seen the GrillDome in use and it works very good and everybody loves the customer service. Right now I am leaning to the Primo Oval because of the flexibility it offers. There are differences between the different companies. It is up to each person to decide what best suits their needs because they will all get good results and all can have something go wrong that is why you should consider customer service an important part of the buying decision.
