I have been researching ceramic cookers quite a bit the last few weeks and have been analyzing different brands. I am confused why some consider the komodo kamado superior to others. Am I missing something or comparing these cookers all wrong?
a) Seems like this unit is WAY overpriced. $2k is not a small chunk of change, at least for me. They seemed to have put a little more effort into their manufacturing processes, but does it deliver better food results?
b) The unit isn't even ceramic! They mention they use some kind of layered refactory material/cement. Seems to me this could potentially release harmful chemicals - has this even been tested? Also, the material itself seems to be very dense.
c) Two part firebox - I understand that most of the other manufacturers seem to have problems with fireboxes cracking. A two part firebox solution seems practical, but to me it also seems like they side-stepped the technical problem. Although less likely, I am assuming even this design can crack.
d) Ceramic tiles - similar to the Kamado company in california, komodo kamado seems to have adopted the tiles exterior finish. I have read horror stories from the Kamado owners about these tiles falling off after a couple of years. They might be pretty now, but how do these things looks 4/5 years from now?
e) Also, if wanted to invest into a bbq guru - I have to punch a wall through the komodo kamado. I dont know about you, but I am not punching a hole into any 2k investment.
Thoughts?
