Repairing a Kamado

I have a 10 year old Kamado that is in need of repair. It was tiled and the tiles have completely fallen off the outer surface. I am not going to replace the tiles. I want to find a mortar that I can use to put a coat over the entire outer surface at about 1/8" to 1/2" to replace the tiles that fell off and to create a solid looking paint-able outer surface. I have cleaned the surface somewhat and will paint the ending finish. Any suggestions?
